Located in a former pen factory, The Pen Room recalls the history of some of the companies involved in the trade. Exhibits and displays provide an insight into the variety of pens and writing equipment manufactured during the latter half of the 19th century by companies, situated in
and around the Jewellery Quarter.
The Pen Room is suitable for people of all ages and there is something of interest for everyone. Here you can:
Step back in time and sample the atmosphere of a Victorian factory as you make your own steel pen using original factory presses.
- See the fascinating displays of nibs and writing equipment.
- Reminisce about school days as you sit at old wooden desks and write with quills, steel pens and use slates.
- Have your name embossed in Braille and use some of the typewriters on display.
- Complete a museum trail and try some of the activities in the school corner.
